hinged. Remove the brace from the packaging and loosen all Velcro straps, Velcroing the straps back to themselves. Open the brace so that it is flat and open. Have the patient place their foot onto your knee and move towards the edge of their seat. A hinged knee brace should always be applied directly onto the patient's skin. Put the knee brace behind their leg and wrap the Velcro around, allowing their kneecap to come through the center opening. Reapply the Velcro straps, snug to fit. Examine the brace to make sure the application is accurate and have the patient tell you if there is anything irritating from the brace. Ask the patient to stand and ambulate, noting any discomfort, and adjust the brace if needed.
