We're going to fit a MaxTrack walking boot. The first step is to identify the patient's shoe size. After we've determined the patient's shoe size, we can cross-reference that in the product catalog. A women's 8 1⁄2 translates to a woman's small. Remove the size small boot from the packaging and undo each Velcro strap. While undoing each Velcro strap, secure the Velcro strap back to itself so the Velcro does not stick anywhere else on the boot. Remove the shell lining. Open up the shell liner and have the patient place their foot as far back in the liner of the walking boot as possible. Velcro the liner closed with gentle pressure along the opening. Place the plastic shell on a stool or on the floor and then have the patient slide their heel as far back into the plastic shell as they can, making sure their heel is firmly against the plastic shell and their toes are not hanging over the side. At that point, secure each strap around the leg, starting from the top and working our way down. Secure it snug to comfort. Once we're done securing the strap, check to be sure the toes are not hanging off the edge and the heel is placed firmly into the plastic shell. Once done, we can inflate the bladder on the front of the boot by pressing or pumping the front of the boot, which will add air along the back of the ankle to secure it. If you need to release the air, there is a push-button release on the front of the boot. Holding the button down will release the air. Pumping again will refill the bladder. Ask the patient to stand up and recheck the fit of the boot to make sure the fit is snug and if the fit is comfortable. Once the patient confirms the fit is good, we'll remove the tabs on either side of the boot labeled pull up, and that will secure the Velcro along the medial and lateral uprights and secure it to the boot.
Video Summary
To fit a MaxTrack walking boot, start by identifying the patient's shoe size and cross-referencing it in the product catalog. Select the appropriate boot size, then remove and re-secure the Velcro straps to prevent sticking. Have the patient place their foot into the shell liner and secure it with gentle pressure. Insert the foot into the plastic shell, ensuring the heel is firmly positioned and toes are not overhanging. Fasten the straps from top to bottom, inflate the boot bladder for support, and check the fit. Once confirmed comfortable, secure the Velcro tabs labeled "pull up."
