Walking Boot Non-Pneumatic. Identify the appropriate size walking boot for the patient by referring to their shoe size. Using the manufacturer's catalog, locate the matching size boot for their shoe size. Remove the boot from packaging and loosen all Velcro straps, Velcroing the straps back to themselves on the boot. Open the liner of the walking boot, and have the patient put their foot in the walking boot, ensuring their heel is placed firmly in the back of the liner in the boot. Close the liner of the boot. It should be snug to fit. Reapply each Velcro strap, snug to fit. Examine the walking boot, ensuring the patient's toes are not hanging over the edge, and ask the patient if there is anything irritating to them. Have the patient stand and ambulate to ensure there is no irritation when walking.
