Pdf Summary
This document provides a strategic framework for launching and scaling AI initiatives in healthcare, as presented in a December 2025 AAOE webinar by Dr. Laura Kathryn Neal. It begins by guiding organizations to identify their current AI maturity phase—Exploring, Piloting, Scaling, or Optimizing—and recommends convening a steering committee involving clinical, financial, IT, and compliance representatives to set three strategic AI-supported goals, such as reducing readmissions or improving margins.

Next, organizations are advised to assess their current environment by evaluating systems, data infrastructure, interoperability, staffing readiness, and pinpointing quick-win opportunities that promise high visibility and early return on investment. Selecting high-impact use cases involves listing challenges aligned with strategic goals (e.g., high overtime, claim denials), scoring these use cases based on impact and feasibility, and choosing one high-impact, feasible use case as a pilot.

For the pilot, defining clear success metrics with measurable outcomes is essential, alongside initiating a vendor selection process through scorecards, and creating a realistic timeline for a roughly nine-month deployment. Stakeholder engagement is critical; organizations should communicate AI’s role as augmenting—not replacing—staff roles, address adoption concerns transparently, and maintain momentum via biweekly steering meetings.

Progress tracking includes developing an AI dashboard to monitor adoption, system uptime, and support tickets, coupled with quarterly reports on ROI, cost savings, and patient satisfaction. Executive summaries highlight wins, challenges, and next steps on a single page.

Finally, the document emphasizes phased scaling from pilot to enterprise-wide integration, budgeting for ongoing change management, and continuous optimization to ensure long-term AI success in healthcare settings.
